FMCG Fulfilment Portal

Strategy, research, design, delivery and ongoing operation

Challenge

This global client has several foundations in Australia to bring education to children in Australia and New Zealand, and has done so for over 20 years. The program is a free program designed to teach children the importance of good oral hygiene.

Featuring materials developed by teachers, dental professionals and local cultural experts, the program is provided to over 50 million children in 30 languages and 80 countries annually.

The client needed to revamp their platform to reduce fulfilment costs and deal with a changing global compliance landscape.

Solution

Thinking.Studio team worked with the client and fulfilment partner to design a solution that would simplify ordering, fulfilment and tracking - they assessed the operating environment and developed solution based on a completely open-source implementation stack of Angular and Act.Framework (Java).

As part of the Thinking.Studio delivery process, a series of agile design sprints were undertaken and a detailed user interface prototype was developed and tested. Once the design was approved, the website and fulfilment portal was developed.

In parallel, Thinking.Studio acquired a decade of highly sensitive old customer data from the fulfilment house partner, and securely cleansed the data using the Thinking.Studio Python data processing tools.

The technical solution was developed over several Agile sprints using the Thinking.Studio Scrum methodology.

As the development was undertaken, an environment on Amazon Web Services was configured with SSL and a production NGINX web-server that proxies to the Act.Framework application and MongoDB database. The code was added to the Thinking.Studio Jenkin’s continuous deployment pipeline. As code is tagged in GIT for acceptance testing or release, it was then built, tested, and deployed into the appropriate AWS environments.

Results

Since launch, over 45,000 education packs have been sent to dental professionals and schools across Australia and New Zealand.

Given the success and cost-efficiency of the solution, Other programs are migrating to the same technology platform.

Thinking.Studio continue to provide hosting operations and support for the client and their partners.

Data Cleansing and Enrichment

Strategy, research, design, delivery and ongoing operation

Challenge

This large B2B retail client had over 250,000 SKUs of products for its clients and provides online search and order capabilities to thousands of office administrators across all industries.

The data in the client's product catalogue needed to be improved and enriched to provide better keyword search quality and product descriptions for their customers when they used their eCommerce store.

Solution

Thinking.Studio team worked with the client to develop a data cleansing pipeline that would intelligently reformat product descriptions, fix spelling, clean metadata, define product relationships, and add search keywords without the need for manual intervention.

The technical solution was developed over several Agile sprints using the Thinking.Studio Scrum methodology, and data was reviewed in conjunction with the client product team throughout the journey.
